“I suddenly realized I like reading”

C—-r came to me 2 years ago with little, reliable phonemic awareness. Guessing was his go-to. Bubbly and full of personality, my working relationship with this young man is just plain fun. Many a session with him ends “it’s time to go already? I feel like I just got here,” a compliment each time I hear these words.

I love working with these talented kids, getting them tools in their toolboxes. Guessing is less of a go-to for him, using his tools is becoming more.

While doing a bedroom re-decorate, he counted his 60+ books and remarked to me, “hey, guess what? I suddenly realized I like reading!” Mission accomplished for me. He has overcome so much and I’m here to help him fill that toolbox for the rest of his life, what a priviledge!
