Square Peg/Round Hole

.

I got a new student inquiry that went like this, "Hi, looking to change tutors. We've been with the same tutor for 2-3 times a week for the last 2 years and his tutoring is just not matching what the kids are learning in school that week.” Her current tutor is Orton/ Gillingham based, which is great.   So I suggested to her a better approach might be looking at the new-to-our-area school that is Nuero-Divergent based and friendly for dyslexic learners in that they use O/G schoolwide.  I told her she was trying to fit a square peg in a round hole by looking for a tutor to mimic the learning taught at her area public school.  That dyslexic brains can't learn to read the way 80% of the population can, and that is why they need this multi-sensory approach designed for their brain.  I hope she heard my words.  I know they can be hard to work into their life, school/friends, etc. And I hope this child grows the way their brain was wired to do so.
